One of the things I've always liked about higher res monitors is that my palettes and toolbars are very small. Thus I can fit more palettes on the screen at one time and not have them get in the way.
I hope resolution independence doesn't make my palettes huge, like they look on lower res monitors.
I don't know wy people are so worried about this. Everything will be exactly the same size that it currently is on your computer (1 to 1). The only difference will be that with Leopard and resolution independence you'll be able to scale certain elements larger or smaller. You don't have to scale the elements if you don't want to but the option will be there.
This is a good thing. Even a great thing. No more jaggies when enlarging fonts and other elements.

How about using a #tag for twitter, so others can get an idea of how long the line is in realtime.
Make it Seattle Specific like #SEAIPHONE

I think embedded gps is an excellent feature for a camera(phone).
If you check out smugmug (http://www.smugmug.com/hack/maps-overview), they have the ability to mash up your photos to google maps - but you currently have to tell it where each picture was taken. With embedded gps information in the metadata of the photo, this could work automatically (or as steve would say - "otomatically").

I think think this may mean they are close to announcing a universal version of MS OFFICE. VPC was a part of the Office pro version, and they probably decided not to wait to complete the universal version of VPC.

I hope the oil companies make huge profits too. Without them, I wouldn't have gas to drive to work. So what if gas is $5 a gallon, they work hard to get that oil out of the ground. Same for my electric company. They provide me with some high tech electricity to power my Apple products. And the supermarkets, for selling me food so I can survive. They truly deserve to make billions. Same for the health insurance companies. I'd like to see BCBS make at least 5 billion a quarter for providing my health care.

And what's with this paying for incoming minutes thing? The payment should be the responsibility of the person doing the calling. At least, that's how it seems to work over here.
Seems to work like that in Europe, i guess. If I call someone in France for instance, then they have to pay at least some of the incoming call.
In the UK the caller pays for the call which seems the sensible way of doing things.
I do get dropped calls, here, though, but's that's 'cause I use a cheap-ass Pay as you go card with Virgin, who piggy-back on to other networks, it sems. But not often, it has to be said.

Not everyone wants to have to click through an obscure link just to see what the OP was talking about.
So instead, you download the image and re-post without link attribution? And rather than even taking the time to even *look* at the link itself - which would have taken 0.5 seconds - you simply mindlessly duplicated it and pretended you had a new idea?

i have played D2 on my intel iMac.
it has been a while so forgive me if i am wrong.
i think the only issue was choosing video to be software rendering over openGL. openGL doesnt work well for many people so choose software rendering.

Thank you for this great site. I'm new here and have a question about VPN.
If I enable VPN to get the cablevision app working will the ipad always use VPN for all data? Meaning will anything I do on the ipad be transferred through my home computer and network?

Reach and New Vegas will probably tide me over until well into next spring. Those 2 games will be a great 1-2 combo for me. Tons of action and multiplayer with Reach, and when I need a break from that, a good slow paced RPG with NV.
I was seriously disappointed with the Reach beta at the time. There were lots of things in it that I didn't like or agree with in how it played. But in their subsequent BWU's and podcasts, Bungie have announced that many of the things that many people had issue with were in fact wrong/broken, and have been fixed for GM. So, that is great. Add to that all of the news that has come out recently, and in the coming weeks, and this game is shaping up to be right in my wheel-house.
Same goes for New Vegas. I played the absolute crap out of FO3, so when I heard that NV was going to be mostly the same game, just with new character and story, I was super hyped. I played Oblivion a bit, but never got into it, but for some reason FO3 just connected with me. So hearing that NV would be sticking with the same engine and general gameplay mechanics is great. Hopefully NV has a ton of DLC to go with it, like FO3 did.

You can't adjust a monitor so that it has a higher resolution than it inherently does. However, if you have a high res screen, it can behave at (seemingly) lower resolutions (eg: it can operate at a size similar to 1280x800 on the MacBook), except that it would be sharper than a MacBook's screen because the screen has 1920 x 1200 pixels trying to create a desktop size equivalent to 1280x800. So instead of the 110 dpi LCD screens we have now when a 1920x1200 screen operates as a 1920 x 1200 screen, it would operate with a dpi of like 150 dpi if a 1920x1200 resolution LCD was working to create a desktop similar to a 1280 x 800 workspace.
***But again, correct me if I'm either wrong, or not entirely correct, because I want to understand this as well. :)
But like MarkCollette said, this resolution independence thing does scare me a bit as well. I want things to looks smaller if I have a resolution independent screen. Sure I wouldn't want text to be so small that I can't read it, but if they had a way to scale the text larger while leaving other elements nice and small, it would be rather ace.
Are you saying that you will get an effectively higher dpi # when running a screen at a lower resolution? I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but I think it's a little off- as you said, you're never going to get higher resolution out of a screen than it's native resolution. What you can do with resolution independence is use a high resolution screen at it's native resolution without sacrificing that nice big look of the lower resolution. It arises out of the difference, mentioned by others, of vectors versus bitmaps. That means you say that you put black pixels between some distance and direction away from a given point, rather than saying white pixel, white pixel, two, white pixel. (I'm not sure if that distance is defined as a portion of the screen or an absolute distance or what).
And i agree, scaling some things and not others, done very intelligently, would be "rather ace"

nice...however, "100 million books downloaded" really can be heavily biased.
1)how many were free books?
2)how many people are actually READING them?...in their entirety? Not iphone or ipod users...must be iPad...and pretty much everyone agrees that reading a 200+ page book on an iPad is very strainful on the eyes.

AirDrop appeared in Finder with the original Dev Preview. When I upgraded to Developer Preview 2, AirDrop was gone. I figured it was some sort of bug, and when I did the Dev Preview 2 Update that was released today, I figured it would return - but I was wrong!
Any idea on how to bring AirDrop back into the Favorites area of the Finder sidebar?? It's not even an option in the Finder Preferences Sidebar section!
I just checked and it is still there for me after the update. I would say file a bug report. I don't know of a way to make reappear.

Cellphone games are great when you need to kill a ton of time, but I rarely use them otherwise. Maybe when I get an iPhone 5 though there'll be some games that'll make me want to play them all the time :D
